AQA is an exploration company primarily searching for coal, iron ore, manganese and base metals, with tenements mainly in Australia. Key projects are located in the Bowen Basin (coal) in central Queensland, and West Pilbara (iron ore) in Western Australia, which is an Australian premium iron ore JV with an American company. The company also has interests in coal projects in Mozambique and Botswana in Southern Africa.

Aquila Resources Limited was incorporated in March 2000 and was listed on the ASX in June 2000. During FY02, AQA acquired a suite of coal tenements covering in excess of 3,100 sq km in the Bowen Basin. and during FY04 AQA entered the iron ore sector by lodging three applications for exploration licences covering 670 sq km in the North Pilbara region of Western Australia.

AQA operates within the Resources Sector, exploring for coal, iron ore and manganese amongst other minerals. Its operations are mainly concentrated within Australia, but are also carried out in Mozambique and other areas in Africa (including Botswana).

The key factor is management's ability and growing track record of acquiring exploration tenements and developing them to a point where a JV structure enables further development to production or the project is sold in order to fund new greenfield exploration.

Competing with AQA for coal, manganese and iron reserves are majors like RIO and BHP and then a multitude of juniors. Markets for these commodities exist both domestically and globally. AQA is looking to market its commodities to fuel industries in China and India.
