Hutchison Telecommunications (Australia) Limited (HTA), provides a range of communications products and services under the Orange and '3' brands. The company operates its own mobile telephony network under the Orange brand using Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) technology and through its 'Hutchison 3G' subsidiary, offers third generation (3G) mobile multimedia services.

Founder and Managing Director Barry Roberts-Thomson established Hutchison in 1989 as paging service provider. In 1999 the company listed on the ASX having evolved into GSM mobile reseller and at this time, key shareholder Hutchison Whampoa, permitted Hutchison to rebrand its product under the Orange brand. In 2003 the company launched Australia's first 3G network offering video calls.

HTA operates in the Telecommunications Sector. Mobile telephony is HTA’s core business, offering CDMA and 3G services to the domestic market. Competition within the mobile market is intense. Increasingly, mobile operators are relying on non-voice services to support sustainable levels of profitability.

HTA was the first Australian mobile company to offer 3G services. Customers on its 3G network have high-speed access to a wide range of mobile multimedia content, such as Mobile TV, video calling and a suite of enhanced messaging services. The company was amongst the first mobile carrier to introduce "cap plan" pricing.

HTA's customers are primarily residential and small business clients, although it is targeting its 3G network to corporate clients. HTA competes with other mobile service providers, the largest being Telstra, Optus, Vodafone and Telecom NZ.
