PIPE Networks (PWK) provides telecommunication services to internet service providers, telecommunication carriers and the corporate marketplace. The company also operates a fibre optic-based network, servicing the CBDs and metropolitan areas of Sydney and Brisbane.

PWK was incorporated as IX Services Australia Pty Ltd (trading as PIPE Networks) in December 2001 and formally commenced its operation in May 2002. In July 2002, PIPE Networks was granted a Telecommunications Carrier Licence by the Australian Communications Authority.

PWK operates in the Telecommunication Services sector. The sector faces strong local and global competition which is highly price competitive. The fibre optics market is growing due to the increasing needs of companies and governments for high-speed communication capacity.

PWK is one of Australia's largest peering provider. The company's differentiating factor is its portfolio of peering clients which include some of Australia's largest content and internet service providers; WebCentral, The Australian Broadcasting Corporation, iiNet, Primus, TPGi and AsiaNetcom.

Local competitors include large telecom companies such as Telstra, Vodaphone and Optus. Telecom corporation of New Zealand and Singapore Telecommunications Ltd are overseas competitors which have interests in Australia's telecommunications industry. Customers include Internet service providers, telecommunication carriers and the corporate marketplace. Amongst users of PWK's Dark Fibre service are Flight Centre, ABN Amro Morgans and the Queensland Government.
